Research Interest:

Prevention and management of chronic diseases in underserved populations

Identifying, describing and alleviating factors that attribute to poor outcomes in underserved patients with chronic disease.

Bio:

Dr. Wyatt is currently Associate Residency Director and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. Concurrently she acts as the Clinical Director of the UCLA Mid Valley Family Medicine Clinic. Dr. Wyatt's time is spent teaching residents, nurse practioners, and medical students, on administrative duties, as well as maintaining a clinical practice taking care of patients with a range of health care problems. Dr. Wyatt is Board Certified in both Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine. In addition to community based research in chronic disease, her interests include teaching learning professionals to practice culturally appropriate medicine. Dr. Wyatt co-created the curriculum for the class Cultural aspects of Medicine that teaches undergraduate pre-med students how to communicate with patients of different cultures in a medical setting. Dr. Wyatt also daily integrates the challenges of teaching prevention of chronic disease such as diabetes and depression to patients of different beliefs, faiths and cultures. Based at the Mid Valley clinic, Dr. Wyatt is currently involved in improving chronic disease prevention and resident education. The Mid Valley Family Medicine is comprised of a heavily immigrant population, mostly Spanish speaking however more than 26 languages are used in the clinic. Dr. Wyatt was a UCLA Child and Family Health Fellowship Trainee from 1997-1999 and completed a Masters of Public Health degree in community health sciences in 1999.
